His Ways Are Higher

Welcome to “His Ways Are Higher”

In the last post we saw how important it is to capture our thoughts and answer three questions.  Today we begin learning about another truth:  The importance of wisdom and where to find it…

His Ways Are Higher

For my thoughts are
not your thoughts,
neither are your ways
my ways, saith the Lord.
For as the heavens are
higher than the earth,
so are my ways
higher than your ways,
and my thoughts
than your thoughts.
— Isaiah 55:8-9

I remember the day I read those verses and pictured in my mind just how much higher the heavens are than the earth...

If God’s thoughts were that much higher than my thoughts and His ways were that much higher than my ways—

Then why didn’t I seek the answers to life’s questions from His Word?  That’s where He tells us what His thoughts and His ways are.

It was an aha moment for me—having lived most of my life making decisions based on my feelings—to suddenly begin to understand that there was an alternative way to do life!

I began to see

my ongoing need

for wisdom.

But where shall wisdom
be found?
and where is the place
of understanding?
And unto man he said,
Behold,
the fear of the Lord,
that is wisdom;
and to depart from evil
is understanding.
— Job 28:12, 28

The fear

of the Lord

is wisdom...

But what

does it mean

to fear the Lord?

In Scripture, the fear of the Lord is a reverential awe of God’s power, sovereignty, holiness, love and mercy; this includes understanding that God’s holiness demands justice—knowing that God is not mocked.  Whatever we sow, we shall also reap.

Wisdom sees God

for Who He is,

and sees our great

need for Him.

Dear friend, I don’t know where you are on your journey with the Lord, but these truths are the same truths that everyone needs for overcoming addiction or for just living the abundant Christian life.

I know many teach that a person who has an addiction is different than others—a victim of an incurable disease.  My experience has taught me that addiction is nothing more than a sinful stronghold.  The solution is no different than it is for anyone’s sin:

Let the wicked
forsake his way,
and the unrighteous man
his thoughts:
and let him
return unto the Lord,
and he will have
mercy upon him;
and to our God,
for he will
abundantly pardon.
— Isaiah 55:7

We come to Jesus,

See our sin

the way God sees it,

Confess and turn

from our sin,

Receive His forgiveness

and cleansing.

Then we

continue in His Word...

…if ye continue
in my word,
then are ye
my disciples indeed;
And ye shall
know the truth,
and the truth
shall make you free.
— John 8:31b-32

It’s a way of life—

soon addiction is

a defeated foe,

As we follow on

to know the Lord

more and more.

I can tell you, it’s amazing how much beauty and joy there is in celebrating reality instead of escaping from it!

It’s an exciting adventure full of ups and downs, and yes, hard times—but we don’t have to do life alone...

We have

Our Heavenly Father

Who loves us;

We have Jesus

for our Strength

and Shield;

We have the Holy Spirit

for our Comforter;

and Guide along the way!

We have God's Word

for our Light

and Anchor!

Remember, we don’t have to rely on our own thoughts and feelings to find our way and make life’s decisions—instead, we can seek God’s thoughts and His ways for the answers to life’s questions.

What a relief it is

to know His Ways

really are higher!

Action steps you can begin:

·       Read Psalm One to see what God promises.

·       Begin finding wisdom by reading a chapter of Proverbs each morning.

I am praying for you,

Dear friend.

I hope that you will join me for Part Two of His Ways Are Higher—where we will begin learning how to spend time with the Lord each day while hearing from Him personally and individually through His Word.
