I love feeling close to God in my prayer time and devotions—but gradually lose that sweet communion as I begin focusing on the things of this world.
But for the Christian, shouldn't the goal be to hold onto that fresh awareness of God’s presence …even after we say amen and open our eyes?
Imagine watching and expecting to see God’s handiwork in personal ways all throughout the day...
Do you find yourself shifting your focus away from the spiritual to focus on the physical world? One theologian describes the two realms as “the sacred” and “the secular.”
“Sacred”- holy, pertaining to God.
“Secular”- not spiritual, pertaining to this present world.
There was nothing secular in our Lord’s life and in the saint the sacred and the secular must be all His, the one must express the other. If I have to turn consciously from the shallow to the profound, there is something radically wrong, not in the shallow, but in the profound.Don’t shut up any avenue of your nature, let God come into every avenue, every relationship, and you will find the nightmare curse of “secular and sacred” will go. ~ Oswald Chambers
How do we continue
experiencing a fresh
awareness of
God's presence?
Instead of walking away
from the Spirit,
we can begin
walking in the Spirit…
“For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”
So how do we
walk in the Spirit?
By being filled…
“And be not
drunk with wine,
wherein is excess;
but be filled
with the Spirit;
”

“When a person is drunk with an alcoholic beverage, his walk, talk, and sight are controlled by alcohol.
God desires that the minds of Christians be controlled by the Holy Spirit so that they will walk in the Spirit, speak on behalf of God, and understand the things of God.
Because people are indwelt by the Holy Spirit at salvation, they do not need to get more of the Holy Spirit, but the filling of the Spirit occurs when the Holy Spirit gets more of the believer.”
Application: “Every Christian should be filled with the Spirit in order that he may have God’s power to serve Him.”
“The analogy between these two moral states is this: a person filled with wine is under its influence; similarly, a Christian is filled with the Spirit when the Holy Spirit controls his thoughts, attitudes, and actions.”

under His influence.
